This is an extinct bird of Ulieta. The drawing lives in the Natural History Museum in London.
Martin Davies has written a novel about the search for the bird, besides the drawing. The bookgroup selected this novel, but I was not going to buy the book until I returned from my
vacation.

This is the version that I would have bought. But, I don't see a bird, but I see a devil.
I saw this at a bookstore. I thought to myself. "Back in New Orleans, we have a book to read called Conjurer's Devil. But that's OK; this is another book. I will buy it."

Well, it turns out to be the same book, but my cover is better, don't you agree?
I found three other covers. I like the one on the right also.

Wow! Wonder how much play they are getting by providing so many covers? I'm sure you aren't the only one falling for this sneaky promotional trick. Do you think they are trying to determine a cover style, for the author's future books, by seeing which one sell best?
Oh, and put that book down and pick-up your Southern one! ;D
I do agree with you about your favorite covers in this case. I have just been noticing the same covers being used on different author's books.
Tara & Maggie,
Is it to confuse us even more?
Check out Reading Matters' Next book discussion. She shows 4 different covers for Theft: A Love Story. Some don't make sense.
Maggie, I started Welty's The Optimist's Daughter LAST NIGHT. One day early. Nah Nah ni boo boo.(or whatever little girls say to each other these days.)
Well, I'm sticking my tongue out at you! :P Welty originally wanted to call it Poor Eyes, but her publisher changed the name. I cannot wait to hear your opinion of it!
I am halfway through it right now.
I hate the stepmother.
